Prayers and Promises of the Bible A very easy read, with good tips and advice. I've enjoyed this book a lot. For example:
In John 11:3, we see Mary and Martha say to the Lord: "Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick." Today, that prayer might come out as: “Dear Lord, we just acknowledge right now that you are the great Healer. And we lift before you right now our brother Lazarus. We pray that you would give the doctors wisdom and discernment, and that You would guide their hands as they minister to our brother Lazarus…”
There’s nothing inherently wrong with most of the formulaic language you hear in prayers. The problem is that it is often used for the purpose of impressing human listeners; sometimes it has little or nothing to do with the true purpose of supplication—letting go of your needs and concerns, and laying them at the feet of God. |
